Zusammenfassung: | An examination of the Uruguay Round of GATT negotiations is offered. The significant accomplishments of the Uruguay Round of GATT have been overshadowed by domestic political issues such as health care and the crime bill. The recently completed Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) is a landmark achievement that deserves far more general recognition and discussion than it has received. This GATT agreement looks ahead to the increasingly complex international economic relations of the 21st century. Some of the reasons the GATT has received so little attention are: 1. the prominence of so many other important public issues, such as health care, the crime bill, and developments in Haiti; 2. the lack of vocal opposition; and 3. the diffuse group that benefits from the GATT. |
