Zusammenfassung: | Examples of international scholarship in this volume include "The Bangladesh Garment Industry," which won the NWSA graduate student award in 2003, and the work of a Canadian scholar, "Race (and Gender and Class) and Child Custody: Theorizing Intersections in Two Canadian Court cases." In seeking to understand each other across cultures, language can, of course, become an obstacle, a point illustrated in this volume in "Rethinking Masculinized Tools: Machetes, Women's Work, and Suburban Yard Maintenance." In 1978, when I enrolled in a doctoral program in English, I was fortunate to find feminist mentors at the University of Minnesota-professors Shirley Nelson Garner, Toni A. H. McNaron, and Madelon Sprengnether-who supported my efforts to translate into reality my dream of assuming a professional identity with a public voice. [...]I wish to thank the many administrators at Iowa State who continue to support the NWSA Journal: Michael Whiteford, Dean of the College of LAS; Wolfgang Kliemann, Associate Provost for Research; and Department Chairs Tom Andre, Curriculum and Instruction; Charles Kostelnick, English; Andrej Plakans, History; and Paul Lasley, Sociology. |
