Zusammenfassung: | This article summarizes the essays contained in this special issue where the goal is to demonstrate that neoliberalism & militarism are inextricably linked. The authors contend that the current integration of the world economy into a neocolonial system of capitalist production, consumption, & reproduction requires access to & control of resources so that transnational corporations can maximize profits. The assurance of political stability & the protection of their investment needed by these corporations are guaranteed by the military, which is on hand to intimidate & repress popular resistance. Part I of this issue deals with the connections among nation-states, militaries, & corporations. The articles in Part II are concerned with demilitarization & positive visions of sustainability & genuine security. The authors conclude that neither capitalism nor militarism can guarantee genuine security for the majority of the people. E. Sanchez |
