The Counter-Enlightenment and the Low-Life of Literature in Pre-Revolutionary France

The rise to prominence of a handful of great philosophers such as Voltaire in the mid-eighteenth century attracted many young authors to Paris. Literature in pre-revolutionary France is discussed.
