Sex stereotyping of infants: a review of gender labeling studies

Initial expectations of infants based on their gender can have a powerful impact on the perceptions of and behavior toward the infants. Stereotyped expectations can also influence gender role socialization and sex-typed behavior. Several gender labeling studies are examined.
