Zusammenfassung:Discusses the social & political dimensions of civil-military relations that have been affected by the end of the Cold War in 1989. At the leading edge of change in these relationships is the trend for some European countries to compose an all-volunteer force; problems with this approach are discussed. Future armed forces will need more investment in public relations functions to maintain effective structures. Technological changes in the areas of communication, the military imperative for secrecy, & military accountability to public sensitivities on the use of force are impacting government-military political relations. 4 References.
