THE ENGLISH PROBATION TRAINING SYSTEM

Improvements in the methods of training probation officers center about a closer integration of theory with practice due to a growing confidence in the idea that theoretical principles are demonstrable in practice, & the teaching of specific skills common to sound soc casework practice. Increased attention is being given to in-service training, with the resultant problems of determining the appropriate length for each course, the method of selection, & the possible creation of anxieties & undermining of the confidence of the so-called natural caseworkers.
