Zusammenfassung: | Spaniards say that their fiestas reflect their various cultural identities and "personalities" and that fiesta cycles in towns and cities define a "community." Cycles at the regional level supposedly define a "people" or "nationality." A similar cycle of fiestas occurs at the level of the nation-state, but this "community" is ignored, or denied, by many for political and historical reasons. "Spanish" nationality is still a dilemma in Spain. However, the national fiesta cycle offers a model for a non-hierarchical, plural Spain. |
