Zusammenfassung: | Both the United States & the Colombian ruling elite have repeatedly mounted campaigns to defeat the FARC-EP -- the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army. However, over the past four decades, support for the FARC-EP has in fact grown. This support, the author argues, has increased in part because of popular resistance to U.S. imperialism in the region. This article provides an overview of how the FARC-EP has maintained a substantial presence throughout the nation & how it has responded to the counterinsurgency campaign backed by the United States. The goal of the analysis is to provide an example of how a contemporary "organic, class-based sociopolitical movement" can mount an effective response against imperial forces. Tables. D. Knaff |
