Zusammenfassung: | Previous research on social support networks is extended to include a consideration of their multidimensionality in an investigation of differences in the same- & cross-sex supportive relationships of Ms & Fs. Focus is on variations in terms of: the frequency & patterning of interactions, level of intimacy or closeness, diversity of interactions, & interpersonal perceptions. Differences in degree of relationship satisfaction as a function of these factors are also explored. Questionnaire data (N = 352 undergraduates) subjected to multivariate analysis of variance indicate significant gender differences in the qualities & characteristics of supportive same- & cross-sex relationships. These differences are discussed in detail along with some implications of the findings. 3 Tables, 35 References. K. Hyatt |
