Zusammenfassung: | In the logic of the Orthodox analysis of pay determinants, the fact that female & male levels of education are getting closer should result in a narrowing of the salary gap. This prediction, however, is not verified: the average level of education of working women is higher than that of men, but their salaries remain lower on average. The educative advantage does not play a role important enough to counterbalance differences in job structures & in working hours that explain most of the salary gap. These differences are linked to segregation phenomena, which are, in turn, largely the result of social behavior & the distribution of domestic & family tasks between women & men.
