Online U-Topia: Cyberspace and the Mythology of Placelessness

Cowan examines the issue of placelessness and web-mediated religion. Among other things, he notes the ways in which online religion is different from what might be called onsite religious practice, and how participants are both placed and placeless. He analyses religion and the Internet in terms of some of the classic theoretical questions regarding social action--a useful reminder to both keep and adapt theoretical questions for changing empirical realities.
