Zusammenfassung: | If Hollywood was able to establish the world's most profitable film industry, this is partly because Hollywood film studios were long able to work according to the dominant economic model that would ensure maximal return. This article traces the development of a multi-tiered system of production companies that, especially in the 1990s, turned to incorporate independent production companies as part of its chain of operations. In addition, more and more production companies turned to Canada in order to use the dollar exchange to their advantage. These and other strategies were devised mainly for the purpose of shrinking production costs in order to realize a more substantial profit. Hollywood films are increasingly made for exportation. This along with the fact that the industry has embraced a more globalized production strategy that has subsequently cost numerous American jobs threatens to turn back to harm the industry directly as ticket sales and DVD sales together fell in 2005. |
