Zusammenfassung:Examines the global food crisis, seeing it as fundamentally a supply problem rather than an issue of high prices. It is argued that the crisis is a function of poor productive capability. Using US wheat production & exports as a gauge, it is asserted that, ultimately, people are eating more food globally, consuming reserves & outstripping food production. Issues related to programs & policies & the quirkiness of agricultural economics are then addressed. It is contended that international cooperation & enlightened national agricultural policies will be required to meet the rising demand for food; US leadership is called for. D. Edelman
