Zusammenfassung:In Dominance of Academicians in the Parties. An Answer to Markus Klein, Heiko Biehl considers Klein's conclusions that higher formal education does not increase the likelihood of being a party member to stand in direct contrast to the conclusion that education is a key variable that exerts a strong influence on the party engagement of a person, though both analyses were based on the same data set from Potsdam Party Participation Project. The weaknesses of Klein's analysis including insufficient operationalization & incorrect conclusions as a result of biased sample are explored. Social attributes play a role in membership to a party, but not in intensity of engagement within the party, & the dominance of academicians in parties has consequences. In Is the "Dominance of Academicians in the Parties' a Discovery of its own Value? A Plea for the Appropriate Use of Multivariate Analyses in Empirical Party Member Research Markus Klein finds Biehl's conclusion surprising as Klein's analysis did not investigate the representation of the highly educated in parties, in part because Biehl's favored analysis strategy has not been fully elaborated & his findings are neither surprising nor particularly theoretically exciting. Rather than a simple comparison, Klein would prefer to investigate the determinants of membership within a framework of a multinomial logistical regression, with consideration of predicates selected from the background of theoretical thoughts.
