Zusammenfassung:This research attempts to draw out transferable lessons for future Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) development by analyzing the Daedok Technovalley (DTV) Development Project, the first Korean attempt to design EIP by restructuring a conventional industrial estate development plan. This paper discusses the definitions and key concepts of EIP development and analyses the DTV development plan’s progress towards sustainability through in-depth analysis of the planning and design strategies, and technologies adopted. The results indicate that the DTV development could achieve a higher level of sustainability progress in most of the evaluation criteria when compared to conventional industrial estate development practices in Korea. However, some limitations are still apparent in the aspect of ‘symbiotic industrial network construction’, ‘cultural identity creation’ and ‘material flow planning’.
