Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the Bush Administration's record in East Asia relations, noting significant accomplishments, nagging problems, and one very substantial failure. President Bush has revitalized the U.S.-Japanese alliance and gained support from Japan for its Iraq mission and has improved the U.S.-China relationship; but North Korea has greater nuclear weapons capabilities than when Bush took office, with no mechanisms in place to prevent further production of the fissile material needed for nuclear weapons; and the U.S. image in Southeast Asia is tarnished. |
