Zusammenfassung: | Stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region will depend on relations among China, India and Japan. Economic and other imperatives will drive them to deal with one another. They all need peace but competition for scarce resources and for regional leadership, potentially aggravated by latent nationalism and ongoing territorial disputes, risks disrupting relationships. How the United States reacts to perceptions of a power shift to the East will be crucial. New Zealand policies will need to reflect increasingly the importance of China, India and Japan, and the relations among them, to its own interests. |
