Zusammenfassung: | School children learning English as a second language in Hungary (N = 147, aged 9-16) were tested to determine whether they can acquire new English words by viewing the American version of the children's TV program Sesame Street. After children in Debrecen & Budapest viewed segments of Sesame Street, they showed measurably significant gains in English vocabulary & word usage relative to control groups that did not view the programs. Accordingly, the American version of Sesame Street can provide linguistic & other educational benefits to Eastern European children. 3 Tables, 1 Figure, 2 Appendixes, 29 References.
