Zusammenfassung:The current state of Russian language instruction & Russian linguistics research in Belgium is outlined. Two types of Russian language courses are distinguished: (1) those of translator training programs at 8 colleges, enrolling 561 students in 1995; & (2) those of academic degree programs in Slavic philology &/or East European languages at the Slavic departments of 3 universities (Brussels, Louvain, & Ghent), enrolling a total of 320 in 1995. Curricula of (1) & (2) are described, & a review of Slavic department faculty reveals a surprising neglect of Russian linguistics: the field of Slavic studies in Belgium is strongly focused on literature & cultural history. Two dissertation projects in Russian linguistics are described. 29 References. J. Hitchcock
