Zusammenfassung:The phenomena of Old English stress & high vowel deletion as analyzed by B. Elan Dresher & Aditi Lahiri (see LLBA 25/3, 9105954) & Morris Halle, Wayne O'Neil, & Jean-Roger Vergnaud (see LLBA 28/1, 9400777) are reexamined. A simplified bracketed grid theory is used in the reanalysis, which is argued to provide a better metrical interpretation of high vowel deletion & its exceptions, & to account for variability in secondary stress not handled in the other two accounts. 21 References.
