Zusammenfassung: | Paper presented at the conference "Tisucu i sto godina od smrti Metodijeve - cirilometodsko kulturno-knizevno nasljede u Hrvata" (One Thousand and One Hundred Years Since the Death of Methodius - The Cyril-Methodius Cultural-Literary Heritage in Croatia) organized by the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences & the Old Slavic Instit Svetozar Ritig, Zagreb, 16-20 Nov 1985. Croato-Glagolitic liturgical books from the fourteenth & fifteenth centuries are examined to determine the role of grammatical categories in N declension. The categories of gender & animacy are compared with the categories of number & case; the former are found to be inherent to N stem whereas the latter are changeable & form a paradigm. It is argued that the category of declensional class is the only category that is exclusively morphological. Similarities & dissimilarities with Old Church Slavonic & Modern Croatian are discussed.
