The volume represents the author's doctoral dissertation. As part of his account of differences in word order between Scandinavian languages & English, Holmberg provides an analysis of the verb second phenomenon found in all Germanic languages except English. A description of the contents of the book & the major arguments is provided. The volume is found to be well argued, well organized, & of interest to theoretical linguists. 14 References. B.
