Zusammenfassung:Recent theories of intrasentential anaphora share the assumption that the choice of pronoun does not depend on the form of the antecedent, except for agreement. It is shown that this assumption does not hold for Fula (Niger-Kongo), spoken in Mali. In Fula, the choice of pronoun depends on the intended referent & on the syntactic form of the antecedent. This is illustrated with reference to the third person possessive pronoun makko. Current syntactic theories cannot account for these facts. 5 References. B. Annesser Murray
