Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:A corpus of 757 words of unknown origin in A magyar nyelv tonrteneti-etimologiai szotara ([The Hungarian Historical-Etymological Dictionary], Budapest, 1967-1976) is analyzed for phonetic features to determine their Finno-Ugric, Iranian, Caucasian, or Old Turkic sources. The possibility of determining a word's source on the basis of its cons clusters, word ending, word-internal vowel quality, phonotactic rules, & morphophonological structure is explored. Shortcomings of the approach are acknowledged. Z. Dubiel
