Vowels Before /l/ and /r / in the Tangier Dialect

Variations in the quality of vowels before /l/ & /r/ in American English are discussed, with emphasis on description of these variations in the Tangier (Va) dialect. This dialect retains /r/ in all positions, although many surrounding dialects show some degree of /r/-lessness. B. Annesser Murray
