Zusammenfassung: | Nunnally provides an interesting & lucid explanation of statistical technique, defines notations very clearly, & introduces a method of communicating about them. His approach is pragmatic, noting the limitations of various methods. Examples are plentiful & well-placed. After a chapter on the nature of statistics, two chapters introduce basic concepts. Chapter 4 covers the collection & manipulation of data, while chapters 5 & 6 treat measures of central tendency, dispersion about the mean, & norms. The next two chapters discuss r, while chapters 9-13 deal with using statistical results to derive conclusions. Although not written for linguists, this book provides essential & immediately useful statistical knowledge. T. Lamb |
