From Languages in Contrast to Interlanguage

Studies in Contrastive Linguistics and Error Analysis I. The Theoretical Background ([Studies in Descriptive Linguistics, vol 2], Nehls, D. [Ed], Heidelberg: Julius Groos Verlag, 1979) reflects the formative period of the shift of linguistic interest in second-lang learning from contrastive analysis (CA) via error analysis (EA) to research on interlang (IL). Divided into two parts, one on CA, the other on EA, with IL studies woven into both parts, the work touches on a wide range of theoretical issues.
