Writers, Critics and Children

This three part work is a collection of essays first appearing in the early 1970s in the periodical, Children's Literature in Education. The essays in Part I present writers' views on the challenges of writing for children & young adults. Part II contains essays on criticizing & evaluating literature in the field (specific writers singled out include E. B. White & C. S. Lewis). Part III concerns methods of presentation which might enhance young people's enjoyment & appreciation of literature. The work seems directed toward writers & critics rather than teachers & librarians. Parts of the book could be used as supplements in courses on young people's literature. J. Atkinson
