Zusammenfassung: | Since the development of transformational theory, grammaticality has been the center of renewed interest. A major problem, however, has been the development of procedures to investigate items of concern. The endeavors of Quirk and Svartvik through their operation/selection tests to provide adequate techniques are described and their success is evaluated. The construction of the tests and the interpretation of the results are discussed, and the general validity of the tests is confirmed. |
