Commentary: The public health consequences of restricted induced abortion--lessons from Romania

The pronatalist policies of the Ceaucescu regime resulted in the highest maternal mortality rate in Europe (approximately 150 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births) and in thousands of unwanted children in institutions. (Abstract amended)
