Zusammenfassung:Historically, the trend for autistic children has shifted from institutionalisation to providing appropriate treatment in home and public school settings. The trend for adults has shifted to finding the most appropriate models for helping adolescents and adults move toward independence from their families. Suggests an empirical approach is required in order to monitor and assess the effectiveness of the various models in use and to systematically determine the critical elements of these models.
