The growth of government, the ineffectiveness of voting, and the pervasive political malaise

Argues that the increase in political apathy and alienation is tied to the unfolding of an increasingly complex issue agenda within the context of a two-party system. The consequence has been a widespread perception that the parties are unresponsive or even irrelevant. (Abstract amended)
