THE INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S DIGITAL LIBRARY: Exploring Digital Libraries for Children

Following the great tradition of International Board on Books for Young People's founder, Jella Lepman, the International Children's Digital Library's (ICDL) primary function is to use children's books to "awaken a new understanding of other people and nations." After World War II, Lepman believed that sharing children's books could build bridges between countries and understanding among people. The creators of the ICDL believe that new technologies can further Lepman's vision by digitalizing outstanding children's books and making them available to readers throughout the world.
