Zusammenfassung: | The Bibliothèque nationale de France (BNF) has stirred controversies since its inception in 1989. The architectural design was criticized by many as unsuitable for a library. The author worked in the new French national library during the years 1991-93, specifically, being responsible for application of the Dewey decimal classification (DDC). Despite his strong opposition, the DDC was modified to such a degree that it became an inefficient, illogical, and incomprehensible scheme. Analyzed examples reflect the curious manner in which DDC numbers are being constructed at the BNF. |
