War and Militarism in the Thought of Herbert Spencer: With an Unpublished Letter on the Anglo-Boer War

Herbert Spencer's position concerning war and militarism, using the ideas of the thinkers that preceded him as a backdrop, is re-examined. At the end of the 19th century in the UK a process of militaristic "rebarbarization," which was to culminate in the Anglo-Boer war, occurred.
