Zusammenfassung:Until recently the role of promotores (field workers) was almost exclusively a technical one related to the construction of systems. The Instituto Ecatoriano de Obras Sanitarias has recently redefined the roles of a portion of its field staff. They will have fewer technical responsibilities and will be expected to devote most of their time to community organising and educational activities in communities where water systems have already been installed.
