Zusammenfassung: | Current U.S. government information policy is found lacking in terms of its support of the domestic information industry. Lack of federal leadership and a broad-based national information policy imposes a serious competitive handicap upon the U.S. As a result, large segments of the U.S. information infrastructure have been acquired by foreign interests. The U.S. response to the present situation requires: (1) a comprehensive and cohesive national information policy, (2) a focal point for national policy and program development and coordination, and (3) recognition and nurturing of U.S. private and public information resources. |
