Zusammenfassung: | In the past, the UK's National Science Foundation has supported research in information sciences, computer science, and engineering. In May 1986, all these elements were brought together to form the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE). The new Directorate is inherently interdisciplinary, involving a great variety of professional researchers. The programs of the new Directorate are organized in 4 divisions to provide a balanced representation of the current content of research: 1. the Division of Computer and Computation Research, 2. the Division of Microelectronic Information Processing Systems, 3. the Division of Advanced Scientific Computing, and 4. the Division of Information, Robotics, and Intelligent Systems. In the future, major efforts will be undertaken to expand knowledge and research in each of the areas represented by these divisions. |
