Zusammenfassung:Concludes a special issue of articles which expand on the discussions that occurred at a live satellite symposium "Emerging concepts in management of insomnia", held during the American Geriatrics Society Annual Scientific Meeting on 19 May 2004. Notes that understanding of insomnia is advancing, leading to changes in the way this condition is conceptualized and classified, especially in older people. Additionally, new data support nonpharmacological therapies, suggest that hypnotics may be safer than originally thought for long-term use, and indicate considerable promise with emerging new therapies.
