Zusammenfassung: | Year 1999 has been one spent in fear of the repercussions of the Year 2000 bug commonly known as the Y2K bug, which in cases have led to predictions that life would come to a halt when, not if, hit by it. This paper first looks into the nature and background of the problem, followed by an account of the potential problems that might arise. It then deals with the compliance definition, and gives the compliance status of various commonly used software based on this definition. It also gives an account of the Y2K compliance status of various large and important organisation in Pakistan. The paper shows that if proper risk assessment is done, followed by a well thought out risk correction strategy backed by a contingency plan to counter any unforeseen problems, there is no reason why the doomsday scenario can't averted. |
