Local responses to changes in religious policy based on evidence from Gloucestershire wills (1540–1580)

Evidence from wills has been used to indicate changing beliefs of individuals following radical religious policy shifts in 16c England. This evidence is highly problematic. Describes a methodology for analysing wills and demonstrates its use in a study of the diocese of Gloucester. Illustrates the wide spectrum of local religious beliefs and the late acceptance of protestantism in the region. (Original abstract - amended)
