Irish tree rings, Santorini and volcanic dust veils

There is renewed interest in the date of the violent eruption on the Aegean island in Santorini Greece during the second millennium BC, because of possible effects on tree-ring growth in the US. Research shows that oak trees growing on bogs in Northern Ireland produce concentrations of narrow rings within a few periods less than 20 years long and these periods correspond to dates suggested by other methods for major volcanic eruptions.
