On the Role of β Particles in Stress Corrosion Cracking of Mg-Al Alloys

There is an increasing body of evidence to show that β particles play a critical role in transgranular stress corrosion cracking (TGSCC) of Mg-Al alloys. The factors contributing to this role are discussed with greater detail than in previous works, particularly with respect to the propensity for β...

Zusammenfassung:There is an increasing body of evidence to show that β particles play a critical role in transgranular stress corrosion cracking (TGSCC) of Mg-Al alloys. The factors contributing to this role are discussed with greater detail than in previous works, particularly with respect to the propensity for β particles to behave as H trapping and crack nucleation sites. It is hoped that this discussion will spur further work in this field.
