Zusammenfassung: | We present an adaptive numerical technique for solving convection–diffusion‐reaction problems, modelling the transport of contaminant in porous media. We develop and analyse residual error estimators using finite volume approximations. The error estimators with respect to both time and space yield global upper and local lower bounds on the error measured in the energy norm.
