Zusammenfassung: | took to divest spirits of the habits acquired in their earthly confinement. This, no doubt, my readers are anxious to learn; but I think it necessary that they be properly prepared, by instrustion more analagous to their finite understandings, before I fully develope the sublime mysteries of the spiritual state. The want of success which has followed the exertions of all human legislators, will make men very reluctant to believe, that spirits have certain means of preventing their companions from doing injury to society; but when they reflect, that to the knowledge we have acquired or earth, we add that of past ages, that we talk at once with lawgivers and transgressors, and dive into the most secret recesses of the heart, our superiority will cease to be a matter of surprise. |
