Zusammenfassung:This paper is a summary of research on tolerance to ethyl alcohol that is relevant to providing services for the prevention and treatment of alcohol problems. The emphasis of the paper is on the implications of tolerance research for planning intervention strategies. In addition, the effect of tolerance on conducting evaluations of a person's drinking behavior during and following treatment is examined. The paper concludes with discussion of possible lines of research on tolerance to alcohol that would be useful to clinicians.
