Zusammenfassung: | Estimation of grinding temperature is essential for the better understanding of the grinding process. The present study attempts to correlate the carbon depletion in mild steel chips to the heat produced at the grinding zone. A database is generated by heating the workpiece material to various temperatures and studying the carbon content. After grinding, the carbon content in the chip is estimated and compared against this base data of carbon content vs. the temperature of the parent material. The carbon content gives an estimate of the temperature that the chip would have undergone during grinding. |
