Zusammenfassung: | The Msimbazi river was the principal receiver of industrial and domestic wastewater in Dar es Salaam. Sources of surface water pollutants in Dar es Salaam included industry, the Tabata refuse site and uncontrolled refuse dumps in the city. Recommendations for reducing the pollution load are presented. These included all parts treating wastes to an acceptable level before dumping or draining, enforcement of environmental protection laws, reuse and recycling to reduce wastewater, and proper maintenance of pipes and machinery. The water consumption, wastewater characteristics, treatment and disposal situations in some selected industries in Dar es Salaam are tabulated. |
