Zusammenfassung:	Serious effects were found in perch (Perca fluviatilis) affected by discharges from bleached kraft mills, including reduced gonad growth, liver enlargement, metabolic disturbances, impaired ion balance, and suppressed immune defence. Some effects were evident in fish caught as far as 8-10 km from the pulp mill. In contrast, fish caught in water receiving discharges from a pulp mill without bleaching processes showed little or no effects.
